Cocoa & Chocolate
Cargill is one of the world’s major originators and processors of cocoa beans. We offer a complete range of high quality cocoa and chocolate ingredients such as cocoa powder, cocoa butter, cocoa liquor, as well as chocolates and compound coatings. Our customers include dairy-, confectionery-, bakery- and ice cream manufacturers, who produce cakes, biscuits, confectionery and other products for consumers around the world.
In Indonesia
Indonesia is the third largest producer of cocoa beans in the world. Makassar, located on the island of Sulawesi, is Indonesia’s key cocoa export port and home to our cocoa business established in 1995.
Employing over 300 people, we source, grade, package and export more than 35,000 tons of high-quality cocoa beans annually to Cargill internal and external customers throughout South East Asia, Latin America, Europe and U.S.A.
Sustainable and responsible sourcing practices
High quality cocoa, grown in a sustainable way, is essential to the economies and the livelihoods of farming communities in cocoa growing countries, and for Cargill, our customers and consumers. This is why we are investing in, and supporting, activities to help cocoa farmers improve agricultural working practices and to deliver benefits to local communities.
In Indonesia, smallholder farmers produce the vast majority of cocoa beans. We actively support the sustainable development of Indonesia’s cocoa industry to benefit local smallholder farmers and make a difference in the local communities from which we source our cocoa.
