PT Harapan Sawit Lestari and subsidiary plantation and mills
In 2005, we considerably expanded our palm plantation activities in Indonesia when we acquired PT Harapan Sawit Lestari and its subsidiary in Kalimantan. The operations comprise 23,000 ha of oil palm plantation producing fresh fruit bunches that we process at four company–owned mills into high quality crude palm oil and palm kernel.
Producing palm oil sustainably
We believe that palm oil should be produced sustainably and we are committed to responsible and sustainable palm oil production on our own palm plantations. In 2013, PT Harapan Sawit Lestari received international recognition for its sustainable palm oil practices by being certified the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) standard of the European Union. This was followed in 2014 with certification by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
Supporting local smallholders
Oil palm smallholder farmers contribute significantly to the success of our plantations. At Harapan, we provide support to nearly 5,000 smallholders, who own close to 9,000 ha of oil palm plantations.
