Helping our partners thrive
Drawing on the strengths of Cargill's global supply chain, we originate and ship a wide range of grains to Indonesia from around the world. These are supplied to a range of customers including food producers, feed manufacturers and local businesses. We work hard to make our partners' businesses more successful, and offer value-added services including highly efficient integrated supply chain management and insights into the dynamics of global commodity market.
Our oilseeds business is based on palm oil, coconut oil and related derivate products from Indonesia. We also own a copra crushing plant which has given us access to a reliable supply of coconut oil and copra meal.
Our capabilities and resources
We operate two main grain storages facilities: in Cigading, Banten; and in Surabaya, East Java. In addition, we operate a copra crushing plant in Amurang, North Sulawesi.
Our main grain commodity offerings are soybeans and protein meal. Throughout our supply chain, we are committed to maintaining the highest levels of product quality and safety, from the moment a vessel docks through the discharge and storage processes to selecting, bagging and distribution.
Soybeans
We import, discharge, clean and store soybeans before supplying them to wholesalers who in turn distribute to local tofu and tempe producers. Our focus is on building long-term relationships with customers by adding value, based on efficient and effective integrated supply chain management supported by insights into global commodity market dynamics.
These capabilities have established Cargill as one of the most trusted soybean businesses in Indonesia.
Protein meal
We import raw feed materials to support Indonesia’s animal feed industry. Our customers include feed mills as well as local traders who carry out ‘home mixing’ for the feed industry. Our reliable supply chain management and trading practices have helped us become a reliable and trusted supplier in both the soybean meal and micro ingredients markets.
Soybean meal origination has long been one of our core strengths. We source meal from producers in South America, India and the United States and maintain an integrated supply chain to serve our local customers. We trade soybean meal in bulk and by container, so customers have the flexibility to choose from a range of delivery options - from shipment to Indonesian ports to packed product delivery at their plant or warehouse.
In addition to soybean meal, we also provide local customers with micro ingredients imported from the United States and India. These include meat bone meal, corn gluten meal, rapeseed meal as well as dried distiller’s grain and soluble.
Oilseeds
We provide logistics and operational support for the origination and export of palm oil, coconut oil and related derivate products from Indonesia. Our integrated supply chain delivers convenience and performance to our customers, facilitating shipments out of the Sumatran ports of Belawan, Dumai, Panjang and Padang, including the handling of all documentation and quality control work.
In recent years we expanded into production-related activities by acquiring and then expanding a copra crushing facility in Amurang, some 60 km south-west of Manado, the capital of North Sulawesi. This facility produces coconut oil and copra meal, mainly for export, and also houses bulk storage tanks for lauric oil with a capacity of 31,000 metric tons.
Coconut oil is valued as a nutritious health food. We produce good merchantable quality crude coconut oil from copra – dried coconut meat – made from locally grown coconuts that are prepared for crushing by removing the shell, then breaking up and drying the fresh coconut meat. We export most of our coconut oil to the United States and Europe.
Copra meal, also known as copra expeller, is a by-product of copra crushing. Containing fat and protein, it is widely used as an ingredient in cow and swine feed. We export most of our copra meal to Vietnam, Korea, India and other Asian countries.
