Cargill Partners with Multi-stakeholders to Improve the Quality of Human Resources and Community Welfare in Ketapang Regency
[Ketapang, February 3, 2023] – Cargill, through its palm oil business unit in West Kalimantan, continues its commitment to improving people’s capacity and welfare in the locations where its business operates, in order to produce future leaders who can make positive contributions to their communities. It realizes its commitment through Scholarship Program that started in 2017, where this program has benefited 182 exceptional students at Politeknik Ketapang. Entering its 6th year of partnership with Politeknik Ketapang, Cargill signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 31, 2023, at the Hall of Politeknik Ketapang Building.
Director of Politeknik Ketapang, Irianto SP said, "This scholarship program intends to raise the spirit of local residents who are already studying at Politeknik Ketapang that they have the opportunities to get scholarship assistance from the industry sector in Ketapang district. Also, students who have graduated can be employed by one of the industries in this region.”
“Doing the right thing is one of Cargill's core values and by realizing the important role that education plays in the society welfare, we are honored to be able to support the efforts of the Regional Government in improving the quality of human resources. We are committed to continuing the Scholarship Program to provide opportunities for communities to achieve higher education. So, they can contribute to the development of the region where they come from.” said Anthony Yeow, President Director of Cargill's Kalimantan Palm Oil Business Unit.
Besides its partnership with Politeknik Ketapang, Cargill also realizes its commitment to supporting the local community's welfare by establishing strategic partnerships with an international non-profit organization – Save The Children (STC). Cargill and STC handed over their partnership programs in the areas of Economic Resilience, Youth Empowerment and Sustainable Sanitation to the Regional Government of Ketapang Regency and were accepted symbolically by the Regional Secretary.
Regional Secretary of Ketapang Regency – Alexander Wilyo, S.STP., M.Sc, added, “On behalf of the Regional Government, I appreciate and thank Cargill. The hope is that this scholarship program can be carried out in the following years, and the scope will be expanded and multiplied so that we can quickly achieve our goal and objective to create a smart society and increase the Human Development Index in Ketapang Regency."
Moreover, this year Cargill also became the first private company in 2023 in the Ketapang region to provide Employment Social Security benefits for vulnerable workers (non-Cargill employees) in Ketapang Regency.
The Head of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan for Ketapang Regency – Julianto Marpaung handed over this Employment Social Security to Cargill, and later was handed over directly by the company to Sub-District Heads from 5 regions, namely Kendawangan, Air Upas, Jelai Hulu, Singkup and Marau Districts.
"We are grateful for Cargill's participation in providing protection Employment Social Security protection for vulnerable workers surrounding the company which covers Work Accident and Death Benefits for 12 months of protection. This CSR program from Cargill can be a good example for other companies because this is in line with the Circular of the Governor of West Kalimantan on increasing companies’ participation in employment social protection for the communities around the companies," said Julianto Marpaung.
Meanwhile, Head of Commission 2 DPRD Ketapang - Uti Royden Top said, “We appreciate the plantation companies in Ketapang Regency, particularly Cargill. This shows that companies that are investing in Ketapang are very active in supporting the welfare of the local communities.”
These programs are proof that Cargill is committed to contribute to promoting human resources development and people's welfare in Indonesia, especially around locations where Cargill's business operates.
