Cargill holds the Socialization and Exercise of International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS)Code at PT Cargill Indonesia Special Terminal - Amurang

Amurang, North Sulawesi, Indonesia – Cargill Indonesia carried out the socialization activity of ISPS Code followed by the implementation of Exercise at PT Cargill Indonesia Special Terminal in Amurang, South Minahasa, North Sulawesi.  The socialization activity of ISPS Code conducted on Thursday, 25 October 2018 was attended by various stakeholders both from the Harbormaster of Amurang, KSOP Class I Bitung, RI State Police, Armed forces, District Navigation Class I Bitung, PLP Base Class II Bitung, the Customs and Excises, Immigration, Quarantine, Local Regional Government, Pelindo IV Manado, Shipping Agents, Loading and Unloading Companies, Representatives of Fishermen, and others. 

On Friday, 26 October 2018, the Exercise of ISPS Code was carried out in collaboration with the Office of Port Organizing Unit (KUPP) Class III Amurang and RI State Police. 
PT Cargill Indonesia at Amurang has the facility of Special Terminal that has implemented the ISPS Code, and on periodic basis is required to carry out the socialization and exercise.  The socialization activity is aimed at providing information and understanding on the implementation of the ISPS Code and building a synergy with all relevant parties. 

Imelda Tandako, Plant Manager PT. Cargill Indonesia in Amurang stated, ”The cooperation and collaboration with various parties is important to ensure that the product of export-oriented vegetable oil which raw materials are sourced from farmers in Sulawesi can reach overseas buyers in a safe and sound condition in accordance with the applicable international security standards”. 

The activity of ISPS Code Exercise conducted on Friday, 26 October 2018 took place at PT Cargill Indonesia Special Terminal in Amurang with the scenario titled “Hostage and Piracy in the Special Terminal”.  

Imelda Tandako said, “This exercise activity must be carried out by port facility in accordance with the rules of ISPS Code, as a guideline in emergency situation in case of threats that may interfere with security condition of the port”.   This exercise activity is also supported by the Regulators (Harbormaster of Amurang, KSOP Class I Bitung, RI State Police, Armed forces, District Navigation Class I Bitung, PLP Base Class II Bitung, the Customs and Excises, Immigration, Quarantine, the local Regional Government), Pelindo IV Manado, Shipping Agents, Loading and Unloading Companies, Representatives of Fishermen and the Security and Rescue Team of PT Cargill Indonesia  in Amurang.

The Head of the Port Organizing Unit Office (KUPP), Rachman Rani, SH, who is also the Coordinator of Port Security Committee (PSC) Amurang stated, “This Exercise is conducted to safeguard the ships and port facilities and to increase the cooperation among all elements involved, and for Cargill as the media to enhance the awareness at all times in accordance with the existing procedures.”

PT Cargill Indonesia in Amurang has been implementing the ISPS Code since 9 June 2011 and this exercise has been conducted 5 times since the implementation of ISPS Code.  This activity is mandatory for each port facility having followed or complied with the ISPS Code. By fulfilling the ISPS Code, port facilities can be entered by foreign vessels and internationally have international security recognition which has positive impact on the country's trade and economy.  ****
