Palm oil
We believe that palm oil should be produced sustainably and we are committed to responsible and sustainable palm oil production on our own palm plantations. In Indonesia, we produce high quality crude palm oil and palm kernel from fresh fruit bunches grown on our own plantations and sourced from local smallholders. Our operations comprise:
- PT Hindoli in South Sumatra, our first investment in Indonesia oil palm plantations made in 1996, and
- PT Harapan Sawit Lestari and subsidiary in Kalimantan, acquired in 2005
Together, these plantations cover around 41,000 hectares, and employ about 8,000 Indonesians. We also own and operate four palm oil mills with a total capacity of 320 ton of palm products per hour. In addition, we buy palm fruits from around 11,500 smallholder farmers who own an additional 23,000 ha plantations.
All in all, we estimate that our plantations contribute to the economic welfare of more than 100,000 local Indonesians through the crops, products and services we purchase to operate our plantations.
